The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a raucous, blockbuster T20 party. This year, 15 Aussie batsmen will join in on the fun! Among their ranks are the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. This year's IPL promises high-octane cricketing action as these Australians join various franchises to showcase their skills on the international stage.
Cummins Returns to the Field
With the absence from cricket since January – when he stepped away to focus on his mental health – Pat Cummins is primed for a comeback. Cummins was captain when Australia retained the Border-Gavaskar trophy in India earlier this year. Now, he’ll be making it to the field for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the upcoming IPL season. Last year, Cummins missed the IPL because of the birth of his first child. This continued right up through this year, when he missed the entire Sri Lanka tour because his second child was born. His desire to dominate the IPL is unmatched.
Cummins’ arrival should significantly strengthen RCB’s underperforming bowling attack. His experience and leadership in having played for the team previously will prove to be invaluable assets moving forward. IPL fans are excited to see him back on the cricketing field, with hopes that he will take RCB past the final hurdle this time.
Starc and Hazlewood Join Forces
Mitchell Starc, another cornerstone of Australian cricket, will be joining him in the IPL. Known for his exceptional pace and skill, Starc was the sole fast bowler in Australia's two Test wins in Sri Lanka. Even with his personal reasons for opting out of the Champions Trophy, Starc’s passion for playing at international T20 tournaments is not in question.
Perhaps the biggest addition for Australia has been consistent Josh Hazlewood, the player with a reputation for performing under pressure. He will additionally join IPL this year. Hazlewood’s inclusion, alongside Cummins and Starc, would form an incredibly dangerous, tornadic pace trio. This new dynamic duo not only brings depth, but unparalleled strength to their teams.
New Additions Enhance Sunrisers Hyderabad
The SRH will also look forward to the inclusion of the Australian pair of Travis Head and Adam Zampa. It is no secret that both players add a tremendous amount of experience and skill to the squad. Travis Head’s batting prowess and Adam Zampa’s spin bowling capabilities are expected to further bolster SRH’s already potent lineup.
Though underwhelming thus far in the tournament, the addition of Head and Zampa should add some needed firepower to SRH’s arsenal. Both players have a history of producing match-winning performances. Their incorporation will surely increase this team’s odds to do well in this tough league.
