Plans for a new affordable housing development in Upper Edmonton, north London are moving forward. The London mayor Sadiq Khan has an even more ambitious target to build at least 23,900 and up to 27,200 affordable homes a year until March 2026. The upcoming design proposals for the project will go in for planning permission very soon.
The new development will have 284 low-rise homes and terraced houses from one to four bedrooms. These properties will be offered at social rent. This rate is about half of the prevailing market rate, safeguarding that critical access for low-income families. The other half will be about shared ownership, quartier. In this model, residents purchase an equity share in the home while paying rent on the rest of the home’s value.
Along with housing, the mixed-use project will include community facilities and office space. A new park will be constructed as part of the development, enhancing the local environment and providing green space for residents.
UK housing developer The Vistry Group will lead the delivery of this cross-sector, cross-tenure project, with support from the Hyde Group housing association. Together, they hope to develop a net positive living and working environment that serves the future needs of the community.
The development will contribute to Enfield’s forthcoming borough-wide energy network. This new connection will enable qualifying properties to benefit directly from low-carbon heat supplied from the network.
