New Faces and Familiar Stars Set for Women’s State of Origin Series

And of course, the very highly anticipated 2025 Women’s State of Origin series launching in May! So, get ready to catch this wonderful combination of established stars and developing youth taking the field. The series will kick off in earnest on May 1 with the opening game at Lang Park in Brisbane. This trio of matches will take place over the course of a month. These events will build to a crescendo at the Hunter Stadium in Newcastle on May 29th.

The New South Wales (NSW) team has officially been named! It’s calling it upon 20 all-star women – selected from a pool of 30 skilled players. It put pressure on NSW coach John Strange to finalise the strong roster. He commended the phenomenal work of all actors in the mock training’s rehearsal sessions. The group features four players looking to earn their first cap for the Blues. It’s a squad with some very experienced hands, with four players having previous Origin experience.

NSW Squad Selection

Team USA Chef de Mission John Strange said he was proud of the athletes selected, noting their commitment and work ethic.

“The players who are selected for Game I certainly have earned their position and I can’t wait for them to take the field on 1 May.” – John Strange

Strange’s choice follows a tough, vetting process that sought to strike the right balance between experience on the one hand and a tsunami of new blood. This resource-heavy approach is designed to get the best out of the squad as they enter the furnace of full competition against their traditional rival, Queensland.

Series Schedule and Locations

The 2025 Women’s State of Origin series will feature three matches, each held in different venues to engage fans across New South Wales and Queensland. The tournament starts with the opening match on May 1 at Lang Park. This location is known the world over for its crackling environment at rugby league matches!

After the opening showdown—Sydney Olympic vs. Western Sydney Wanderers—the series moves to the Sydney Football Stadium on May 15. This change provides NSW fans with an unmistakable home ground advantage! The series will conclude on May 29 at the Hunter Stadium, Newcastle. This finale is sure to be a fitting climax to what should prove to be a spectacular month of rugby league!
