Former NFL Player Mel Owens Takes the Spotlight as Golden Bachelor

Mel Owens, a retired NFL player and attorney, has been announced as the new lead on ABC’s renewed series “The Golden Bachelor.” Now, at 66 years old, Owens is ready to explore this new chapter of his life. Having spent decades focused on his family and career, he’s now looking for companionship in this new stage of his life.

A native of Detroit, Owens hails from a tight-knit Midwestern family that imparted strong values. He has two sons in his first ever love. After life took a turn he never anticipated, he focused all his efforts on being the best dad he could be. Owens became deeply involved in his sons’ extracurricular sports teams, redirecting his passion to develop their talents and encourage their dreams.

After his professional football career, Owens settled in Orange County, California, where he enjoyed a very successful career as a lawyer. And with great passion, he committed himself to representing clients in cases of sports-related injuries. With his background as a former athlete, he was the spirited champion for the underserved. This chosen second career enabled him to stay tethered to the world of sports while providing greater security for his family.

Now, as he embarks on his new life as the Golden Bachelor, Owens says he’s looking for more than romance — what he seeks is some real companionship. He reflects on the importance of sharing life’s simple joys, stating that he is eager to experience “the simple joys of companionship – sharing life’s everyday moments, making plans for the future, and growing stronger together as a couple.”

ABC’s first season of “The Golden Bachelor” premieres this Thursday—streaming on Hulu the next day. Fans are certainly looking forward to how Owens will approach the dating world at his current age and experience! His journey is not just about finding love but about rediscovering himself and embracing the possibilities that lie ahead.
