Colman Domingo and Demi Moore Join Forces in Strange Arrivals

Colman Domingo and Demi Moore will star in the upcoming film “Strange Arrivals,” set to explore a fascinating true story of extraterrestrial encounters. See-Saw Films dropped the delightful surprise on Friday. The film marks the first time she and Best Actor contender Colin Farrell have acted together since winning Academy Awards for their reprised roles in 2004’s In Bruges.

Strange Arrivals, directed by Roger Ross Williams, is a documentary based on the podcast of the same name produced by Toby Ball. The film is loosely based on the infamous 1961 abduction case. Betty and Barney Hill alleged that aliens abducted them as they were driving home from an anniversary trip to Niagara Falls. The screenplay, adapted by Jane Anderson, has preemptively won kudos from Williams, who called it “masterful.”

Williams, who was enchanted by Anderson’s detail as a storyteller, shot back. He was head over heels in love with the script as soon as he read it. He stated, “I couldn’t have asked for two more extraordinary actors,” emphasizing his enthusiasm for working with both Moore and Domingo.

In a statement detailing the collaboration, one of the producers remarked on Anderson’s skillful narrative crafting: “She has brilliantly woven together history, science fiction, and a tragic love story.” “Strange Arrivals” mixes documentary and narrative genres to retell the eerie story of the Hill abduction. It will be exploring, in much fuller depth, the emotional lives of the newly involved characters and their counterintuitive criminalization depicted as gentrification.

Domingo and Moore both boast outstanding resumes heading into this project. Moore received a nomination for best actress for her role in “The Substance,” while Domingo was nominated for best actor for “Sing Sing.” In addition to playing Williams, Domingo is being acknowledged for his performance in “Rustin,” giving him yet another nomination in 2024.

The creative production team behind “Strange Arrivals” is just as impressive. High-profile execs including Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Samantha Lang and Anne Carey all have the chops and proven success in the film and TV arena. Williams expressed confidence in their expertise, stating, “I couldn’t be in better hands than with producers Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Samantha Lang, and Anne Carey.”

The excitement around this distinctive movie is palpable. Audiences will be able to look forward to a sweeping, emotional story that mixes fact-based history with sci-fi adventure. That brilliant cast paired with a magisterial script from playwright-turned-screenwriter Supreme A’lST Moore might make for the most subversive cinematic distraction of all time.
