Hugging Face Advances Robotics with New Humanoid Models

Hugging Face’s recent strides in robotics have been transformational. They recently debuted a pair of new humanoid robots – HopeJR [PDF] and Reachy Mini. The announcement confirms the company’s dedication to deepening its impact in the rapidly growing robotics industry and developing further on its proven platforms.

HopeJR is a full-size humanoid robot fitted with 66 actuated DOF providing 66 independent degrees of movements. This state-of-the-art humanoid robot, Atlas, is capable of far more than just walking. It’s a wonderful example of the possibility for dynamic interactions in many different contexts. Reachy Mini is a compact, dynamic desktop unit. With the ability to express emotions, move its head, talk and listen, it’s the perfect testing ground for artificial intelligence applications.

In conjunction with these new robotic releases, Hugging Face has expanded its LeRobot platform through a partnership with the AI startup Yaak. This new expansion increases the volume of training data to make truly self-driving machines a reality. It deepens Hugging Face’s growing role in the burgeoning AI-powered robotics ecosystem.

We’re really excited about what’s happening at Hugging Face lately, and so is Clem Delangue, our co-founder and CEO. Oh, he mentioned that they expect to begin shipping the first handful of their new robots in the second half of this year. He touted the open-source nature of these technologies as a crucial aspect.

“The important aspect is that these robots are open source, so anyone can assemble, rebuild, understand how they work, and that they’re affordable, so that robotics doesn’t get dominated by just a few big players with dangerous black-box systems.” – Clem Delangue

In addition to the datasets, Hugging Face announced an updated version of its 3D-printed and programmable robotic arm called SO-101. We created this new improved model in partnership with The Robot Studio, a premier French robotics company. This partnership is a testament to our dedication to fostering innovation and collaboration within the robotics community.

In April Hugging Face added to its capabilities by acquiring Pollen Robotics, a humanoid robotics startup. This transformative purchase should accelerate their ongoing development initiatives and expand their product portfolio in the area of humanoid robotics.

Hugging Face has just released the waitlist for their new robots. This decision reflects how great the demand is for their creative, cutting-edge solutions. Hugging Face is very much at the cutting edge in robotics. They are deep, thoughtful, and creative people—tireless in their devotion to making technology engaging and comprehensible for everyone.
