Brothers in Sport: Josaia and Rai Delana Make Their Mark in AFL and Rugby League

Josaia Delana,因在悉尼板球场(SCG)首次亮相到澳大利亚足球联赛(AFL)而登上头条。He took to the field for his Greater Western Sydney Giants in a one-goal thriller against local rivals Sydney Swans. This milestone will be exciting for Delana, who last played for the Giants during their Round 9 win against Geelong.

Returning Catharines product Josaia Delana turned heads last year as a Category B rookie. He enthusiastically joins the ranks as the fourth recruit from Western Sydney to join the crew. His travels have served to highlight some of the incredible talent bubbling to the surface in the region. He honed his craft at the Kings Langley Public School in New South Wales.

At the same time, Josaia’s rascally younger brother, Rai Delana, is creating his own stirs. At 11 years old, Rai has already made an impact on her state’s rugby league team. Now, he’s hellbent on claiming New South Wales All-Schools championship titles—that’s two in one day, folks—back-to-back. Rai is tearing it up on the rugby pitch and proving his cross-code prowess. Rai hopes to someday perform on the same field as Josaia, saying he’d like them to be able to “play and enjoy ourselves.” The bond between the brothers extends beyond sport. They both represent their school and community, inspiring young athletes in their area.

Their father, Joe Delana, supports his sons’ ambitions and believes their journey could pave the way for many aspiring athletes. He wants their success to encourage millions of other kids. In particular, he wants to keep the door open for fans eager to experience AFL for the first time.

As both brothers further their athletic dreams, they represent the heart of hope and work of community investment. Minnesota family the Delanas fills us in on how sports helped their siblings bond. Along with the athleticism they bring to each competition, they motivate thousands of youth athletes in New South Wales and around the world.
