Katie Thurston Faces Stage 4 Breast Cancer with Courage and Resilience

Katie Thurston, a 34-year-old television personality known for her appearance on “The Bachelorette,” revealed that she is currently battling stage 4 breast cancer. Claire’s disease has aggressively progressed and metastasized to her liver, cranking up the intensity of her health journey. Thurston has stage 3 triple-positive ductal carcinoma. This indicates that on the surface of her cancer cells, she has estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors and HER2 receptors.

Thurston is currently receiving treatment for her condition, and she just finished her second month of therapy. First, she was put on Zoladex, a form of hormonal therapy meant to starve cancer by cutting out ovarian hormone production. Unfortunately, the medication did not have the desired effect, resulting in a surprise early period. Because of this, her doctors have determined that they should change her treatment to Lupron.

Along with the fight against her relapse, Thurston has been coping with long-term memory loss due to her cancer treatment. Still, she maintains an upbeat attitude. She’s candid about the emotional impact of her diagnosis, saying, “Cancer is so isolating.”
