Royal Family Celebrates Trooping the Colour at Buckingham Palace

On June 14, 2025, Prince William and Princess Catherine ushered their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—into Buckingham Palace. Everyone of course was thrilled to participate in the annual Trooping the Colour extravaganza. Taking place in the heart of central London, this spectacular celebration is in honor of King Charles III’s official birthday and features a brilliant military parade.

The children gave us a master class in royal coordination, their clothes perfectly matched to that of their parents. Prince George and Prince Louis wore matching navy suits with red ties, similar to Prince William’s exciting military wear. Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte wore a lighter aqua dress that echoed her mother’s ensemble, showcasing a coordinated look with Princess Catherine.

Trooping the Colour has involved upwards of 1,300 parading soldiers, and more than 300 musicians, making it an amazing display of pageantry. The British Army shared some beautiful imagery from the event, underscoring its importance to British culture and tradition.

Prince William himself took part in the Trooping the Colour parade — he rode on horseback, on a horse named Darby. This particular horse is of immense historical importance. The hat was an honorary gift to Queen Elizabeth from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His attending emphasized the royal family’s commitment to celebrating long-held military traditions.

Princess Catherine turned heads everywhere in a custom designed Catherine Walker coat dress. She accessorized her show-stopping outfit with a wide-brimmed hat by Juliette Botterill. She added touches with a beautiful pair of pearl drop earrings from the Queen’s collection. Princess Charlotte wore the Irish Guards regiment brooch as a nod to her duties as Colonel of the regiment.

In an emotional reflection on her health, Princess Catherine expressed, “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery.” Her appearance at the occasion proved the new Queen’s toughness and commitment to her new royal obligations.

The Trooping the Colour event continues to be a prominent occasion for the British royal family, showcasing their unity and public engagement. Yet in observing this custom, the royal family distinctly reflected the values of public service and dedication to work.
