Elliot Page has a new post up on Instagram, and nothing could be better than this beaming selfie with Page’s partner, Julia Shiplett. The image shows Page beaming with a wide smile while standing on a rainbow-painted road, a fitting backdrop as the world celebrates Pride Month. It’s right to cheer this post, a moment of great joy for Page. He’s been very transparent about his path and experience since coming out as transgender in December 2020.
In his new memoir, Page delves into his past love stories. He opens up about his connections with his co-stars Kate Mara and Olivia Thirlby, as well as his marriage to dancer Emma Portner from 2018 to 2021. He and Portner announced their separation in a joint statement in January 2021, citing, “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer.” This time of change has had a deep impact on Page’s perspective and approach to life.
In 2023 Page told ABC in an interview that he experiences “joy every day.” He spoke about how every aspect of his life has changed since he accepted and affirmed the person he is. He stated, “What it has allowed me is what feels like truly being alive for the first time.” As the omission of that episode would suggest, this renewed perspective highlights the importance of authenticity in his personal journey.
As an artist, Page has been candid about his previous relationships and their role in forming his conception of love as well as his sense of self. Robert remains down to earth and quick to show appreciation for the support he’s been getting from friends and fans both. Page became a household name for his portrayal of Viktor Hargreeves in Netflix’s mega-series “The Umbrella Academy.” He has continued to be a vocal and visible advocate for queer representation, particularly on and in front of all screens.
Page also leverages his robust social media presence and public statements to energize and inspire millions. He has been very candid about the challenges and accomplishments on his path. His recent collaboration with Shiplett features a joyful, affirmational celebration of blackness and queerness. It deepens his resolve to live life on his own terms.
