Fremantle’s Rising Star Patrick Voss Attracts Attention from Rival Clubs

Patrick Voss, the 22-year-old key forward, has become an unlikely trade possibility with several interest clubs in the 2023 AFL trade period. Voss is only in his second year at Fremantle, and he’s already shaking things up. Fans across the league are quickly falling in love with his eye-opening performances this season. He’s managed 15 goals from just 12 games in his breakout season. This brilliant outing cements his position as a foundational player for the Dockers.

Voss is from New South Wales. He relocated to Melbourne for boarding school and honed his skills by playing for the Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup under-18 junior competition. His subsequent two years at Essendon passed without a senior appearance. He took his opportunity during the 2024 pre-season supplemental period at Fremantle. In hindsight, it was a smart decision, as he instantly became a fan-favourite.

In a typical Aussie Rules display during a recent game against Sydney, Voss wowed fans everywhere by kicking a point. Then early in the third quarter he was subbed out. Jaeger O’Meara replaced him in a tactical swap. It was a head-scratching substitution in a lot of ways, not least due to Voss’s excellent run of form.

“I was surprised (he was subbed) because he’s been in really good form,”

As Fremantle continues to navigate their season, Voss’s performance stands out alongside other key players. Josh Treacy is the club’s leading goalscorer with a remarkable 30 goals. Similarly, Jye Amiss has played a huge part with 18 goals. Aside from Voss’s impressive media tour, his quickly emerging profile has not escaped the attention of league insiders.

Riewoldt went on to speculate about Voss’s availability for other clubs looking to compete. He noted:

“My mail is he’d be gettable.”

Clubs like Collingwood and Melbourne are already said to be looking at Voss as a future target. His tender age – along with his proven offensive upside – will make him a hot commodity for any club seeking an upgrade to their top nine forwards.
