Walmart just announced the recall of about 850,000 Ozark Trail 64-ounce Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles. This decision follows recent efforts to raise awareness of significant safety and injury concerns, including impact and laceration hazard risks. Late last week, on Thursday September 15th, the CPSC issued a recall. This recall includes bottles sold online and in Walmart retail locations nationwide.
The recalled water bottles are silver and refuse a black screwcap lid. You can recognize them by the model number 83-662 displayed on the carded packaging. Sporting the Ozark Trail logo molded into the side, each bottle is 4.41 by 4.41 by 11.5 inches.
The CPSC issued this warning on the hazardous nature of these bottles, which shoot off with great force when a consumer attempts to open them. This creates extreme impact and laceration risks, particularly when food, carbonated beverages, or perishables such as juice or milk are stored inside for prolonged time periods. This dangerous defect led to the urgent recall, which was intended to shield consumers from irreversible injuries.
Walmart advises consumers who own these affected insulated water bottles to “stop using the recalled water bottles immediately.” Return products in-store only to receive your complete refund. If you have additional questions, contact Walmart’s customer service.
