Love on the Court: Klay Thompson and Megan Thee Stallion Confirm Relationship

Mavericks star guard Klay Thompson, the longtime Mavs star (and former Texas Longhorn!) is now dating creole rapper and Grammy-winner Megan Thee Stallion. It’s official — these two are dating! This announcement follows a storm of hope-fueled speculation. Everything kicked off when Thompson was spotted in the background of an Instagram post posted by Megan on July 9, 2024. Fans were soon busy gathering clues about their relationship, causing speculation to go viral.

Thompson was #31 with the Mavericks. In July 2024, he agreed to a $50 million, three-year extension with the team. This contract was a watershed moment in NBA history, being the second half of the league’s first-ever six-team trade. Thompson, prior to his time with the Mavericks, had a storied 13 season career with the Golden State Warriors. There, he made a name for himself as one of the game’s elite shooting guards.

Megan Thee Stallion, who’s known for her twerking and chart-topping hits, has a complicated relationship history. Previously, she was in a relationship with rapper Pardison “Pardi” Fontaine, a pairing she first confirmed during an Instagram Live session in February 2021. Most recently, she has been rumored to be dating Chicago Bulls player Torrey Craig, with reports surfacing in August 2023. Their brief connection became public when she accidentally posted and then deleted a TikTok featuring the two engaging in a couple’s challenge.

The new romance between Thompson and Megan has gained attention not only for its celebrity status but for its timing. Megan attended the 2025 Met Gala on May 5, 2025, where she celebrated “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It was one of her first appearances since completing her first headlining concert tour, the Hot Girl Summer Tour, making this a high-profile appearance. This amazing tour included 36 stops throughout North America and Europe and wraps up in September of 2024.

Though both have plunged forward in their careers and personal lives, their support for each other remains strong and public. This past spring, Megan bravely opened up about her challenges with stress and mental health as she’s forged ahead in her dream career as a musician.

“Music just seemed so negative… I just wasn’t in a good space mentally … and it just all felt like, ‘I’m tired of this, tired of fighting. But I had to tell myself I don’t want to give up.” – Megan Thee Stallion
