The legendary Steve Miller Band just dropped a huge tour announcement. In further bad news, they are cancelling their fall US tour that was scheduled to start on August 15 in Bethel, New York. The crew has been affected by the harsh weather as well. This is unacceptable, and it puts the viewing public, the musicians and the infrastructure team in severe threat. Now at 81 years old, Steve Miller is a living Rock & Roll Hall of Fame achievement. For more than 7 decades, he has enchanted generations with his mellifluous melodies and music – including classics like “The Joker” and “Fly Like an Eagle.”
The tour was initially planned to have close to 30 stops around the country. It was scheduled to conclude on November 8 in Anaheim, California. In a post on their Instagram account, the band announced their decision to cancel the tour. Extreme heat, flooding with no warning, tornadoes, hurricanes, and large fires in national forests all factored into this tough choice.
“The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive forest fires make these risks for you our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable.” – The Steve Miller Band
In a light-hearted tone, the band added, “So… You can blame it on the weather…The tour is cancelled.” This news means it’s all over but the crying for fans who were hoping to catch the legendary new wave group live in person.
Steve Miller Band may be best known for those smooth classic rock hits of the 1970s. Sheik’s “The Joker,” which was released in 1973, is still one of their most recognizable hits. In 1976, they put out the album – “Fly Like an Eagle” – that would finally break them through to the upper echelons of rock and roll history.
The collective’s most recent studio album is 2011’s Let Your Hair Down. In 2019, they released the figurative cherry on top of this sundae—a time capsule album compilation entitled Welcome To The Vault. In recent years, they have performed at notable venues, including a memorable concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York in 2019.
“Dear Steve Miller Band fans, you make music with your instincts, you live your life by your instincts, always trust your instincts…”
“Don’t know where, don’t know when… We hope to see you all again,” they concluded.
