Superman Soars High with $57.3 Million in Second Weekend

James Gunn’s hugely awaited film “Superman” is sweeping the North American cinema. It went on to become the highest grossing movie in North America, with $57.3 million in ticket sales for its second weekend’s box office. Studio estimates released Sunday indicate the superhero film has managed to cling to its title as the most popular movie playing in theaters. Second, it shows amazing staying power, even given the typical drop off that summer blockbusters tend to have.

The film experienced a stunning 54% decline in domestic box office receipts from its opening weekend. This decline is similar to the classic drop off for large-summer blockbuster fare. In just two weeks since its release, “Superman” has grossed a remarkable $406.8 million worldwide, setting a solid foundation for DC Studios as it looks to revitalize its cinematic operations.

New blood—especially creative blood—is needed to save the creatively dying studio, and new leadership under James Gunn and Peter Safran was brought in to do just that. “Superman” has been central to their strategy. Considering its strong performance, profitability for the film does seem likely as it heads toward that mark in just the next couple of weeks.

Next weekend presents a significant test for “Superman,” as it will face competition from Walt Disney Co.’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” This new release would make things more difficult for “Superman” to rule the box office and to place its current trajectory on solid ground.

Stay tuned for additional thrilling updates from DC Studios! Along with “Superman,” audiences can look forward to new feature films “Supergirl” and “Clayface,” both set for 2026 releases. These movies are designed to cash in on the buzz generated by “Superman.” The shared universe idea is something the studio clearly hopes will become an intricate and rewarding web that really engages DC’s fanbase.

Today, the box office landscape is changing faster than ever. Superman soars brightly for DC Studios, proving that a wise move can restore it to its former ability to seriously compete in the film arena.
