HydroTech Hoses Recalled After Reports of Injuries and Bursts

Nearly 3.6 million HydroTech 5/8-inch Expandable Burst-Proof Hoses are currently under recall in the US for safety issues. On Thursday, the CPSC announced a recall related to a “stop sale” order issued last month against Peloton. They cautioned that these hoses had a tendency to rupture at unknown times, posing impact and hearing damage risks to consumers.

HydroTech hoses are available in different lengths and colors. You can tell if you have an affected monitor by looking at the models/date code markings and model names listed on the recall announcement. This recall only impacts the units produced on or before August 31, 2024.

Since their launch, these hoses have caused at least 29 reported injuries. Victims have sustained traumatic brain injuries, multiple amputations, and serious neurological damage in these incidents. These report 1 bone bruise, 2 sprains, and 5 cases of temporary hearing loss due to the extremely loud noise produced when the hoses ruptured.

On its own blog, the CPSC highlighted just how grave the situation is. They noted that leaking hoses could pose significant dangers. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled HydroTech 5/8-inch Expandable Burst-Proof Hoses. Check the specific recall notice for more details about what to do in this situation.

Further than the direct injuries the CPSC’s warning highlights, this suggests that consumers need to be more cautious about product safety. This recall applies only to the U.S. market, marvel at this unprecedented caution for consumer ambassadors.
