Explore National Science Week and Its Exciting Events Across Australia

Programs National Science Week, Australia’s largest festival, will be held from August 9—17 this year. This annual celebration underscores the importance of science to our everyday lives. Every year, people, schools, and nonprofits around the country put together an amazing variety of fun and engaging events and activities.

The initiative, managed by the Australian Government, encourages Australians to participate in real scientific research and exploration. Brace for one amazing lineup of opportunities coming your way! With more than 2,000 events planned across the country, there’s an exciting experience waiting for everyone — no matter what age or interest.

Participants will experience a number of fun activities produced by our university and K-12 Hacking STEM communities. These programs typically include a mix of workshops, lectures, and hands-on experimentation that ignite wonder in students and the general public. Research institutions will contribute to the festival, showcasing their latest findings and innovations, while libraries and museums will host interactive programs that offer insights into various scientific disciplines.

Beyond face-to-face meetings, National Science Week moves with the times, and this year offers dozens of digital events. State-of-the-art virtual tours will take participants on a journey through the nation’s scientific landmarks and institutions without ever leaving their home. Join us on a year full of incredible DIY science adventures. Families and aspiring scientists will take part in fun, interactive experiments with the everyday stuff they probably already have around the house.

Science centers help make National Science Week a huge success each year by hosting hands-on activities that encourage students to think critically, creatively and deeply. These gatherings are designed to spark the imagination of future generations and encourage them to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

That way, all can participate, regardless of where they live or their ability to travel. This cultural and artistic inclusivity speaks to the festival’s larger goal of making cutting edge science relevant and accessible to all Australians.
