Recently, Werner Co. announced a recall of more than 122,000 Multi-Max Pro ladders. This move follows safety complaints regarding their locking mechanism.
Recall Details
The recall is limited to certain models including the ALMP-20IAA (20-foot) and ALMP-24IAA (24-foot) trailer models. Aside from defectively designed, consumers should conduct ladder inspections as design defects can result in serious, potentially fatal injury.
The recall, number 25-431, follows Werner getting 18 reports of falls related to these ladders. Alarmingly, 14 of these cases resulted in trauma. Victims experienced as much as severe bruising and lacerations, and more serious trauma including head injuries and fracture of wrist, leg and ribs. Given the locking mechanism’s potential to fail, creating a serious risk of users falling without warning, we were heartened to see the company’s quick response.
The impacted ladders have a silver finish with a blue top and the blue and white label indicating the model on the side rail. The label features an oval logo with the name “Werner” and brand “MULTI MAX PRO.” These ladders can be easily recognized by a long black rope attached to the top rung. Notably, models ALMP-16IAA and ALMP-18IAA Multi-Max Pro Ladders have an alternate design and are not included in this recall.
We commend Werner for its proactive cooperation with federal consumer product regulators to protect the safety of its customers.
