Delta Launches Route Race Contest for SkyMiles Members to Choose Summer 2026 Destination

Delta Air Lines has forged a one-of-a-kind opportunity for its SkyMiles members and employees. They can meaningfully inform what travel experiences the airline will ultimately make available. That’s why this summer, the airline gamified the process even further by launching its first-ever “Route Race” contest. Now participants are able to help choose a new European destination to be added to the summer 2026 schedule. The voting period begins on August 25th and ends on August 29th. We’ll reveal the chosen destination no later than 30 days after the voting ends.

Delta Air Lines, which currently serves over 300 destinations globally, is especially focused on the needs and preferences of its SkyMiles members and employees. This effort further supports the airline’s long-time dedication to its neighbors, putting them at the center of these point-in-time decision-making efforts.

Contestants in the Route Race competition may vote using the Fly Delta App. The three European destinations under consideration are Sardinia, Malta, and the island of Ibiza. Through the diversity of its cultural, historical and natural offerings, each destination has something unique to attract every type of traveler.

Delta calls Sardinia one of the most adventurous destinations, defined by rugged beauty, ancient history, and culinary treasures. In Malta Meanwhile, Malta feels like the ideal antidote, where layers of history mix — over 7,000 years of it — with endless Mediterranean sunshine. Ibiza proves to be the center of the universe for nightlife. It’s known for its features like top-notch DJs, vibrant beach parties, and relaxing coastal beach bars.

“SkyMiles Members and Delta people are at the center of everything Delta does. The Route Race is a celebration of their influence, giving our community a voice in where they want to fly next and inviting them to help shape Delta’s global network,” – Paul Baldoni, Delta’s senior vice president of network planning.

As outlined in Delta’s strategy to improve customer engagement and create a more relevant, personalized travel experience, this contest is one of many initiatives supporting that work. In addition, this summer the airline is launching its largest-ever transatlantic schedule. It opens up new destinations to travelers who never would have dreamed or imagined going there.

“The destinations where Delta flies are more than just dots on a map – they’re gateways to culture, connection and possibility, and this is a chance for our Members and employees to bring one of them closer,” – Paul Baldoni, Delta’s senior vice president of network planning.
