Ego Nwodim Bids Farewell to SNL After Seven Memorable Seasons

Ego Nwodim, longtime fav comedian and actress, recently announced she is leaving “Saturday Night Live. The big announcement came on September 13, 2025, after an unprecedented seven-year run with the beloved late-night institution. Nwodim established herself as a fan favorite during her time on the show, quickly displaying her illustrious impressions, particularly of Dionne Warwick. She triumphed with audiences through the invention of characters like “Lisa from Temecula”.

Joining the cast of SNL in 2018, Nwodim instantly took hold of the mic with her incisive humor and magnetic presence. Through the years, she warmed her way into the hearts of audiences and critics all over — displaying both her impressive range and comedic chops. Her exit comes at the same time as the departures of a number of other ensemble actors. Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, Michael Longfellow, and Heidi Gardner have all announced their exits from the show.

In a touching Instagram post, Nwodim looked back on her time with SNL and why she was thankful for her experiences on the show. She acknowledged everyone who made her time on the show possible, from her fellow cast mates to the writers and crew.

“I am immensely grateful to Lorne [Michaels] for the opportunity, to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support, and friendship.” – Ego Nwodim

Nwodim stressed how bittersweet her goodbye would be. She likened her departure from SNL to knowing when to leave a great party before the music stops. This analogy acknowledges the real tension of her excitement and anxiety as she sets out on new adventures.

“The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight.” – Ego Nwodim

Her announcement coincides with her attendance at SNL50: The Homecoming Concert held at Radio City Music Hall in New York on February 14, 2025. With fifteen immersive installations, the party honored the show’s rich cultural history through a celebration of how cast members made their mark on the industry.

As Nwodim prepares for this new chapter, she’s optimistic about paving the way for others. On Instagram, she playfully encouraged her fans to get her in on their parties.

“Now invite me to your weddings please!!!” – Ego Nwodim

Looking back on her time at SNL, she said that the things she experienced while there were beyond her imagination. That emotional sentiment is a testament to her love for her time spent on the show.
