Diamonds’ head coach, Stacey Marinkovich, was thrilled with her crew’s newfound potential. The news comes hot on the heels of the Silver Ferns’ recent victory over Australia in the 2024 championship series. They surprised everyone, crushing the competition to win three of four matches! This unintended consequence of the result has intensified the race for next year’s Constellation Cup. More importantly, it will elevate the best and brightest talent from either country.
Kiera Austin’s Unexpected Return
Kiera Austin’s selection in the Diamonds’ squad has raised eyebrows. This follows her having minimal game time in two of Adelaide’s first three games this season. Her drop to the bench in April foreshadowed a long and difficult journey. Her call-up is evidence of Marinkovich’s determination to continue developing young talent within the squad.

The first matches of the Constellation Cup are set to take place at Melbourne’s John Cain Arena on October 17, followed by games at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on October 22. Fittingly, Paige Hadley has been ruled out from the upcoming series. Goode, Kelley and defence Meyer Substitutes Meanwhile, Sunday Aryang, Sophie Dwyer and Amy Parmenter will replace Jo Weston, Alice Teague-Neeld and Kiera Austin. The changing cast of characters highlights Marinkovich’s plan — to create a team of versatile players who can adjust and overcome any obstacle.
