Even more than a year later, his death continues to generate outrage, anger and sorrow across the U.S.

The alleged shooter, Tyler James Robinson, subsequently surrendered to police after a talk with a family friend prompted him to surrender. He is being held without bail at this time. Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray described the killing as a tragic incident, though he noted it points to larger societal problems.

The Circumstances of the Shooting

When Kirk was found murdered on her university campus, it led to an urgent investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. According to reports, a note discovered under Robinson’s keyboard read, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it.” This ominous missive has provoked speculation as to Robinson’s motives and mindset in the days and weeks leading up to the police shooting.

Following the shooting, Robinson reportedly told his then roommate to delete any text messages regarding the shooting. Utah Governor Spencer Cox has already picked out this roommate, naming Robinson’s romantic partner. Robinson explained to his roommate that he had hit a limit with the intolerance he faced. As he resolutely declared, “Some hate ain’t whittlin’ on a stick and negotiating it out is not appropriate.”
