Panthers Dominate Bulldogs to Keep Five-Peat Hopes Alive

The Penrith Panthers showcased their formidable prowess by delivering a stunning victory against the Canterbury Bulldogs, firmly keeping their five-peat ambitions on track. With the brilliant Nathan Cleary calling all the shots, the Panthers produced a breathtaking opening 40 minutes. They capped it off with a stunning 36-8 lead, which became the largest halftime lead in finals history.

Nathan Cleary dictated the tempo of the game and was the most important player on the field, he was borderline brilliant. His contributions were very much key, including a try he created, stemming from an impressive offload in succession from teammates Lindsay Smith and Isaiah Papali’i. Cleary’s ability to read the game allowed Penrith to exploit gaps in the Bulldogs’ defense consistently.

For North Hunterdon, Paul Alamoti put on a show netting a fantastic hat-trick for the Panthers. Only minutes after Brian To’o had intercepted a Bronson Xerri pass, he raced 50 metres to score and increase Penrith’s advantage. Then came his third attempt. To’o’s interception not only highlighted his defensive skills but demonstrated Penrith’s attacking capabilities in transition.

The Panthers’ forward pack controlled the war in the trenches, helping them to completely overpower their opposition. The Bulldogs could not tackle, as they missed 42 tackles in the first half alone. This momentary lapse in concentration opened the floodgates for Penrith to play some of their best attacking football all year.

After the break, Penrith picked up where they left off with an unyielding attack. Nathan Cleary showed real class here when he sprinted down the short side during a set play. In the meantime, Brian To’o executed a perfection kick back inside for Isaiah Papali’i, providing yet another try. A perfectly timed Mitch Kenny kick out of dummy-half found his man, resulting in another four pointer. This play proved that Penrith was wholly in control on the field.

The first 40 minutes was just an exhibition of Penrith’s astonishing absolute quality in rugby league. Their unyielding will to continue their storied history as one of the league’s perennial powerhouse franchises just leapt off of the screen. The comprehensive nature of their victory serves as a warning to future opponents as they advance deeper into the finals.
