SBS Expands Accessibility with Daily News Wraps and Podcasts

SBS is committed to making the entire system more accessible, day in and day out. They produce news summaries adapted for English learners and people with disabilities. The non-profit provides extensive podcasting resources. Time-tested favorites such as “News in English” and “On The Money” draw wide audiences from all walks of life seeking up-to-the-minute information.

Meanwhile, each weekday, SBS provides the day’s biggest story in a quick five-minute wrap, made available through the “News in English” podcast. Through this initiative, we hope to better serve English learners by providing stories about today’s headlines in easy-to-read plain language. The podcast has quickly become an indispensable tool, making sure that listeners are both up to date and drawing closer to dominion over their lingo.

SBS offers a daily ten-minute finance/business news wrap, “On The Money.” On top of all that, tune in to hear the “News in English.” This popular podcast is hosted by SBS Finance Editor Ricardo Gonçalves. It addresses important financial literacy issues and breaks down detailed topics into digestible information for a general audience. Both of these podcasts are widely available on all of your favorite podcast platforms, so you can listen and learn on-the-go.

Readers can listen to these podcasts directly through the SBS website at sbs.com.au/news/listen. The service was developed with the consumer experience in mind, making it easy for people to discover the news programming they care about.

Beyond artfully staged audio content, SBS has made a significant investment in creative visual branding for their podcasts. Each show comes with its own unique artwork, making the listening experience that much richer and giving listeners a swift visual cue to their favorite programs. For example, “News in English” displays a bold photo illustration, while “On The Money” has an elegant visual that conveys seriousness.

With news more important and in-demand than ever, SBS opens new doors to connect people with these valuable resources. Alongside that, it helps to raise media literacy across various segments of the community. The organization’s initiatives further the group’s mission to provide culturally relevant, accessible content that reflects the diversity of all Australians.
