Evenflo this week announced a voluntary recall of more than 324,000 car seats that could pose a serious safety risk. The company then discovered that the foam padding in the headrest of certain models could potentially create a choking hazard to small children. This recall affects only certain Revolve360 Slim models sold in the United States and Canada. Fisher-Price advises looking for model numbers that begin with 3681 to determine if yours is impacted.
We applaud the company for making this important issue a priority and hope they move quickly and responsibly to remedy it. The truth is, Evenflo has received reports indicating that children were able to reach the foam materials. Fortunately, there have not been any reported cases of swallowing or harm associated with this defect. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recalls because Evenflo is aware of 11 occurrences where children were able to access foam within the headrest and place it in their mouths or noses. In addition to those incidents, there are 12 other reports of children coming into contact with the foam without swallowing it.
In light of this development, Evenflo is doing more than the response required – taking the initiative by offering customers with affected models free recall repair kits. These kits will come with simple, user-friendly step-by-step instructions as well as protective gear aimed at shielding the user’s access to the foam. The company expects to start shipping these repair kits in early November.
“Free recall repair kits, including easy-to-use instructions and protective materials to block access to the foam, will be sent to all customers for whom Evenflo has contact information, including registered owners of all recalled models,” – Evenflo.
Evenflo encourages consumers to register their car seats with the company to make sure they get a repair kit as soon as possible. The importance of this step cannot be overstated, as it gives Evenflo the ability to connect directly and more personally with customers impacted by the recall.
The company wants to reassure customers that they can continue using their cargo safely. Just be sure to keep the foam pieces intact and away from curious mouths! They want to make it clear that this has no impact on the car seat’s crash safety. Since the integrity of the car seat is not compromised in these cases.
“Families may continue to use their car seats safely if the foam remains intact and out of reach,” – Evenflo.
Evenflo emphasizes that returning the car seat to stores is not an adequate solution for this recall.
“Please do not attempt to return your car seat to a retailer,” – Evenflo.
