Stellantis followed that up with an even more ambitious $13 billion investment plan. This strategy is tied to increased manufacturing capabilities in the United States in the coming four years. This $350 million financial commitment is foundational to the company’s mission chief focus on advancing opportunities for long-term growth and job creation in the region.
Antonio Filosa, CEO and North America COO of Stellantis, underscored the importance of this investment. It will enhance the company’s national manufacturing footprint and add thousands of new American jobs throughout all of the states. Combined with other expansions along the route, the initiative is expected to create over 5,000 new jobs. It will shape important places across Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.
As one major cornerstone of this investment, Stellantis will design and manufacture five new vehicles by 2029. One of the models is a long-range, range-extended electric vehicle. Production at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan is set to start in 2028. Even more troubling, the company plans to build a new, massive gas-powered SUV at the same plant, dramatically expanding their product line.
The investments will additionally go toward catering to changing consumer demand with the production of a new four-cylinder engine. Stellantis is in the news for partly reopening the Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois. This move will ensure that production for the Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Compass, both high-demand models critical to the U.S. market, are increased.
Filosa understood the changing landscape of the auto industry. He noted that Stellantis has backtracked on its electrification commitments to the U.S. market over the past year. The company had previously canceled plans for a battery-electric full-size pickup but remains committed to producing the extended-range Ram 1500 REV, formerly known as the Ramcharger.
“Accelerating growth in the U.S. has been a top priority since my first day. Success in America is not just good for Stellantis in the U.S. — it makes us stronger everywhere,” – Antonio Filosa
Filosa’s remarks underscore the significance of the American market to Stellantis’ overall strategy. Stellantis has made bolstering its in-house manufacturing capacity a priority. To accomplish that, it needs a bigger, more talented workforce to help the company build its desired global presence and prosper with it.
