Jack Steele Bids Emotional Farewell to St Kilda as He Joins Melbourne Demons

Jack Steele has sent an emotional tribute to St Kilda Football Club. He finished with a heartfelt thank you as he begins his new adventure with the Melbourne Demons. In nine seasons with St Kilda, the former skipper has established himself as one of the AFL’s elite midfielders. He put together this emotional tribute that looks back on an amazing journey through the club. Steele, an All-Australian in 2020 and 2021, thanked his teammates and fans for their loyalty and support.

Steele started at consumable dumpster GWS in his pro career. His next career move in 2016 proved to be even more monumental, as he took on the senior coaching role at St Kilda. His talent and toughness and leadership were truly on display as he led the Saints. Non-stop early 2020 and 2021 he was crowned the competition’s best and fairest in a row. His impact not only hoisted St Kilda to unprecedented heights but won him an all-time favorite spot on the fans’ hearts.

On trade deadline day, Steele was officially a Demon. This one was a complete shock, as the deal included a future third-round pick. His original contract with St Kilda ran until the end of 2027. He made it clear that he wanted to stay on this ride with the club. With major changes upcoming for each squad, Steele now begins a new chapter.

St Kilda is in for an exciting future, recently landing four marquee players to shore up their lineup. At the same time, the Demons will have to make some adjustments in their midfield after losing featured stars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver. As far as creating new potential, Steele’s arrival gives a different dynamic to a team seeking to restart its core roster.

In his farewell message, Steele reminisced about his time at St Kilda, stating, “To my teammates, thank you for the memories, the hard work and the bonds that will last a lifetime.” He further acknowledged the support of coaches and staff, saying, “Thank you for believing in me and helping me grow.” And to the whole St Kilda family – your energy and allegiance have moved us.

He continued with an expression of gratitude towards fans, noting, “I hope I’ve given you even a fraction of what you’ve given me.” Steele concluded his message with a reflection on his pride in being part of St Kilda’s journey: “While the next chapter of my career will be in different colors, I’ll always be proud of what we achieved together and grateful to have called myself a Saint.”

Coach Ross Lyon recognized Steele’s impact on the team, stating, “It’s a significant move. I really want to acknowledge Jack Steele.” Steele though can’t wait to get into the action with his new club Melbourne next season. He reminisces fondly on the friendship and camaraderie he founded while playing at St Kilda.
