Public health officials in South East Queensland are currently investigating five suspected cases of brodifacoum poisoning. All of the incidents occurred within the Metro South Health region. They engaged locals from around Logan and Princess Alexandra hospitals. Chief Health Officer Catherine McDougall, as well as Senior Medical Advisor Dr.
Brodifacoum is a long-acting anticoagulant, a class of rodenticide that functions by depleting the body of vitamin K. This important vitamin is central to our blood’s clotting system, and its deficiency can cause life-threatening hemorrhage. Catherine McDougall stated, “Five individuals presented in the last week, from a similar geographical area, with symptoms consistent with brodifacoum poisoning.” She emphasized that they are watching it very carefully. As of now, there is nothing to be worried about in the community.
