Nathan Cleary Looking forward to seeing my girl, Mary Fowler, back in Liverpool. He’s hoping to play in the next Test match for the Kangaroos over there! The anticipation builds as Fowler, a player for Manchester City, has a match scheduled nearby, allowing the couple to briefly connect despite her current ACL injury that sidelines her from playing.
Cleary assured 7NEWS that it wouldn’t be long before he got the chance to see Fowler, when they touch down in Liverpool. He was excited that she would be able to attend his game! As he explained, “I wanna know that I’ll meet her once we arrive in Liverpool! But very much looking forward to that and hopefully she can make it to the games.”
The timing of their schedules creates a special challenge. Fowler’s experience will begin by watching her Manchester City teammates go up against the Jets. From there, it’s a “mad dash” for her to the second of the two Kangaroos Tests, which begins just two hours after hers. Cleary acknowledged the tight schedule, saying, “It’s unfortunate (the games are on the same night) but I’ll be able to see her so that’s the important thing.”
His involvement in this fledgling concept will be somewhat of a test. As such, he played a starring role in the opening Test in which the Kangaroos completed a 26-6 series-opening win. His teammate Herbie Farnworth noted the team’s performance, indicating, “I think we completed at like 60 or 70 per cent which against a class side like the Aussies is not going to be good enough to beat them.” Farnworth emphasized the need for improved ball control, adding, “The boys came out firing but we just didn’t hold the footy well enough.”
While Cleary focused on his own game, he couldn’t help but marvel at his teammate Reece Walsh’s skills. He shouted, “It’s nuts! There are only a handful of players in the history of the game that can do what he’s doing.” Or he just blows up the entire game’s framework out of nowhere. Playing alongside someone of that caliber and with that X-factor is incredibly exciting!
As Cleary and Fowler balance their own commitments, they’re hopeful for their long-awaited reunion. The excitement of Liverpool promises not only a thrilling match for Cleary but a cherished moment with Fowler amidst their busy sporting lives.
