Shirley and Fraser Burns, an octogenarian couple who live 20 kilometers outside Broome, Western Australia, have transformed their dusty rural homestead into a charmingly haphazard homegrown links. They’ve dubbed it Misstree Golf Club, and it’s a genuine labor of love. Now 86 years old and 92 years old, the octogenarian couple leads a very active life. They love spending time gardening and golfing, activities they attribute to their health.
The new couple’s golf course has already turned into a wonderful gathering place for friends and family. The fairways are a deep red grass that turns a deep blue in winter. Tropical gems such as the mango, boab and bauhinia further enhance their dazzling appearance. Shirley and Fraser love to host parties at their extraordinary golf experience where it’s all about fun and fellowship freewheeling golf rivalry fun.
A Unique Golfing Tradition
Fraser Burns, six-course handicap, hovering around the basket. He’s passed the time by drafting a few revolutionary rules for the Misstree Golf Club. One such rule involves a two-stroke penalty for any golfer who inadvertently puts their ball on the roof of their shed. This unusual custom goes a long way in making their games fun and lighthearted.
“It’s a free drop out of the shed if you go in there,” – Fraser Burns
The wife and husband just require a putter and a seven iron to have a great time on the course. This goes to show that golf can be fun without the need for elaborate gear. Fraser has done some amazing things on this homemade halfpipe. It’s apparently not enough that he’s a pickleball millionaire who’s won multiple world championships and scores hole-in-ones on the regular.
A Lifestyle Choice
Fraser Burns expresses pride in their active lifestyle, stating, “The lifestyle we’re living is the way to go.” This philosophy has made them agile over the years. It has inspired a deeper level of friendship as well, with their counterparts. The couple often hosts friends to picturesque, leisurely rounds of golf. Their home is alive with laughter and good will, and it instantly puts you at ease and makes you comfortable.
This course is a whole lot more than golf. It’s a powerful testament to health and vitality, with both Shirley and Fraser staying active into their 90s. Fraser first started playing golf at the age of 50. He reminds us that it’s never too late to pursue the things you love!
Future Aspirations
Looking forward Beyond his 100th birthday celebration, Fraser has grand plans to celebrate his next big milestone birthday at the Broome Golf Club. He hopes to perform there on his 100th birthday seven years from now.
“I reckon I could have made this course bigger,” – Fraser Burns
Although he hopes to develop their course further, for now the couple is happy with their small operation. As those projects show, Shirley and Fraser aren’t just creating a golf course—they’re creating a sanctuary. Here, they can socialize and enjoy the company of one another, all while engaging in physical activity.
