YouTube TV Offers $20 Credit Following Disney Programming Dispute

YouTube TV recently told their subscribers to expect a $20 credit on their monthly bills. This move comes on the heels of a deepening contract dispute with Disney. This is a huge, welcome change from the $15 credit that was available during the very first fallout last year. The credit specifically addresses the harm that was done when YouTube TV pulled Disney content from its service for a day. It’s most recent removal due to a contract dispute.

Last year, YouTube TV faced off with Disney in a major carriage dispute. Consequently, Disney’s most popular channels were unceremoniously removed from the platform. The stoppage would only be a full day, but that was more than enough to alarm and anger their subscribers. In the aftermath of the incident, YouTube TV provided impacted customers with an automatic $15 credit as a gesture of goodwill for the trouble caused.

A YouTube spokesperson confirmed the recent credit increase to TechCrunch. They announced that the service has worked itself out of its disputes with Disney. YouTube TV users will be pleased to hear that with this deal, Disney programming has been effectively restored to YouTube TV’s platform. Users now have new and full access!

Variety was the first to report on this $20 credit being offered to subscribers. YouTube TV deeply regrets any inconvenience that the service interruption may have caused to its subscribers. They are walking the walk though by raising compensation to match this recognition. By increasing the value of the credit, the platform has recognized an opportunity to show even greater customer appreciation and retain subscribers with continued satisfaction.

The original controversy exposed just how complex content agreements in the streaming world can be. Though these negotiations may seem like a relatively harmless sideshow, they create significant consumer harm. As companies like YouTube TV and Disney navigate these challenges, the recent settlement signifies a return to normalcy for subscribers who value access to popular channels.
