Crayola Magnetic Building Toys Under Recall Due to Safety Hazards

CreateOn today recalled about 9,400 units of Crayola pip-Cubes. The recall was initiated due to the medical community’s strong belief that these magnets pose a serious and unreasonable risk of ingestion. On December 4, the CPSC announced a recall. For their trouble, they were attacked by toy manufacturers who sought to discredit them and downplayed the risks that these toys presented to our children.

The Crayola pip-Cubes come in two distinct sets: “Bold Colors” and “Glitter pip-Cubes.” The “Bold Colors” set includes extra bright cubes in red, green, blue, and yellow. At the same time, the “Glitter pip-Cubes” feature purple, pink, blue, as well as green glitter-filled choices. The toys retailed at $20–$35 in the US from May to July.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission cautions that the magnets inside Crayola pip-Cubes could become loose if the seams are torn. This creates an acute ingestion hazard, particularly for children.

“When high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract to each other, or other metal objects, and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting, and/or blockage of the intestines, blood poisoning and death,” – CPSC

CreateOn encourages consumers to discontinue use of the recalled products immediately. Store these products out of reach of children to keep them safe. We encourage all parents and guardians to review the full list of recalled Crayola pip-Cubes. Models that fit this criteria include specific model numbers and their corresponding UPC codes, provided at press time, can be found on both the CPSC and CreateOn websites.

To further simplify the return process, CreateOn will include a pre-paid mailing label for your convenience. Through the new label, consumers can return any recalled Crayola pip-Cubes.

“CreateOn takes product safety very seriously, and we are fully cooperating with the CPSC on this voluntary recall. We have implemented all required actions, including notifying consumers, updating our website with recall instructions, and working with our retail partners to remove affected product from shelves,” – CreateOn spokesperson

CreateOn is going above and beyond these precautions to guarantee children’s safety and avoid any potential ingestion accidents. If you’re affected by the recall, visit CreateOn’s website. To that end, below are the resources that offer the most complete, accurate, and up-to-date information on how to navigate the recall process.
