Collingwood Staff Member Resigns Following Inappropriate Incident at Community Camp

Emails released Collingwood Football Club has released a staff member’s resignation. This after an entirely unseemly episode during what should have been a positive recent pre-season community camp. The camp housed a rich cultural experience and connection. It was held in Tennant Creek, which is located 500 kilometers north of Alice Springs, inside the club’s Next Generation Academy (NGA) area.

Rookies from Collingwood’s AFL and AFLW programs were included in the camp. They were joined by an impressive showing of staff and board members. The club pointed out the ceremony was included in their yearly welcome to new teammates. This program seeks to forge these connections with the broader New Jersey community and further inspire them to learn more about the estuary they call home.

“A group of our athletes, staff, and board members spent the week training in unfamiliar conditions and learning about Country in Tennant Creek for our annual cultural immersion program,” a statement from the club noted.

In the wake of the episode, Collingwood responded decisively and promptly to get to the bottom of the situation. A spokesperson for the Magpies assured NABERS that the club took immediate action upon being made aware of the situation. This time, prioritizing the risk meant taking action right away. Over the course of this process, the employee in question submitted their resignation, which the club accepted.

As Collingwood has made clear, the incident during interstate travel several weeks ago that is described below required it to be investigated by the club’s spokesperson stated. The Club made appropriate action immediately upon discovering the incident. Sometime during this process, the employee at issue resigned, and the Club accepted the employee’s resignation.

In responding to the lawsuit, the club doubled down on its insistence that it provides a professional workplace. We are committed to our people, to creating a culture that elevates every member of the team and upholding workspaces that are professional and reflective of our value of diversity, equity & inclusion,” the spokesperson said.
