Quintuplets Celebrate First Christmas at Home After NICU Stay

El Paso, Texas nurse Theresa Troia, 36, a nurse consultant, is all aglow this holiday season. Now, she’s enjoying her quintuplets’ first Christmas at home, making memories to last a lifetime. Those quintuplets—Kyla, Joseph, Jaxon, Viviana, and Isabella—were born on June 1, 2025, at only 28 weeks and 1 day. After five long months spent in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), they were finally able to come home.

Yet, the road to this pivotal moment has been anything but smooth. Joseph, Matthew and Thomas are the brothers of quadruplet Theresa—who is a quadruplet herself! This distinct familial history and premise informs and contextualizes her ten-year-old experience as a mother of five. Looking back at last Christmas, she remembers being pregnant with those quintuplets and asking God to bring them into the world in good health.

“Last Christmas, I was carrying them and just praying they would all make it here safely. Now, I get to celebrate with five healthy babies in my arms,” – Theresa Troia.

The last of the quintuplets to be released was Viviana, who returned home in November. She and Isabella’s case is particularly rare, as they are identical monochorionic-diamniotic (Mo-Di) twins, meaning that they shared a placenta but had separate amniotic sacs. The experience of navigating NICU not only stretched Theresa’s perseverance, but increased her appreciation for every child.

“Having all five here together after everything we went through in the NICU is something I still wake up grateful for every day,” – Theresa Troia.

As the family gets ready for their first Christmas home together, Theresa, of course, is hoping to begin new traditions with her quintuplets. She makes clear that she wants to create traditions by hanging stockings and reading Christmas stories at bedtime each night.

“Christmas Eve celebration was big for me growing up so I want to do the same,” – Theresa Troia.

Follow along with Theresa as she shares what it feels like to open this exciting new chapter in her life.

“It feels incredible. I truly don’t have words … like, my home and my heart are finally complete,” – Theresa Troia.

This holiday season will be a very special one for Theresa Troia and her quintuplets. It represents both the happiness of reconnection as well as a family returning from separating through hardship. They gather around to celebrate their first Christmas together at home. In doing so, they exemplify the spirit of hope and love that characterizes this special season.
