Uncertainty Looms Over FaZe Clan After Influencers Depart

FaZe Clan, a prominent name in the gaming and esports community, faces significant turmoil following the departure of several key influencers. The organization became a publicly traded company in 2022 before the esports organization was fully acquired by GameSquare in 2023 for $17 million. Recent internal strife including the firing of its CEO has allegedly led to a mass exodus of influencers. This tumult is causing the most serious discussions yet about the future direction of the once-beloved brand.

In fact, influencers tied to the esports organization FaZe Clan have pointed to contract disputes with GameSquare as a driving factor for their departure. Many felt a lack of power inside the institution, referring to their experience as one like they were “puppets.” Influencers are becoming more vocal about their frustrations. They experience a sense of powerlessness due to the lack of agency over their roles and careers within the tribe.

Perhaps the most shocking departure is that of criticism-focused FaZe Adapt, who spent 14 years with the organization. He described his time with FaZe Clan as a significant portion of his life, stating, “Over half of my life, I’d be lying if I said this didn’t hurt, but it had to be done.” Adapt’s poignant farewell resonates with the rest of us who have moved on. Yet it humanizes the unique struggles influencers experience as they adapt to the new ownership.

Matt Kalish, an important power-player in the ranks of FaZe Clan, claimed to feel bad for those that left. He remarked, “My best guess is they’re all good kids and have a lot of people in their ear and are confused.” Kalish said he’ll continue to guide FaZe Clan into the future beyond those influencers, but he knows it will take stability to endure the chaotic sea change.

Discontent in FaZe Clan right now comes at an especially unfortunate time because this is their peak. They’re all preparing to showcase their work at the TechCrunch Disrupt event in San Francisco between October 13-15, 2026. This event could serve as a platform for FaZe Clan to redefine its identity and strategy in light of recent developments.

With so many other local arts organizations facing similar challenges, it will be interesting to see how the organization continues to adapt, fight, and ultimately rebuild. The influencer community’s sentiments definitely highlight the need for better communication and collaboration to create the best possible atmosphere.
