Western Australia and Victoria have named their squads for this year’s AFL Origin match. The opening lineups include a terrific mix of veteran stars and promising first-year talents. This year’s pick is especially unique in featuring big stars from both squads, many of whom are dealing with major injury issues right now.
Western Australia’s squad features some serious artillery on the backline. Nathan Broad, Tom Barrass and Trent Rivers follow them up in the fullback position. The other defenders The halfback line names Jordan Clark, Sam Taylor and Liam Baker. They work very hard to make sure they provide powerful support to their defense. Wil Powell, Patrick Cripps, and Bradley Hill will make the circle theirs. They want to control the ball and make everything go in their direction.
Prominent forwards for Western Australia are Shai Bolton, Aaron Naughton, and Callum Ah Chee on the half-forward line. Luke Jackson, Jesse Hogan and Charlie Cameron should be the first three in the full-forward line. Tim English, Chad Warner and Kysaiah Pickett split the ruck duties. They’ll battle zealously to win an early edge for their side in the midfield war.
Victoria’s roster boasts an impressive arsenal. Josh Battle, Jacob Weitering, and Blake Hardwick give them an intimidating fullback line. They’ll make sure that the dangerous attacks from WA go to ground. Jack Sinclair, Tom Stewart, and Max Holmes should form an intimidating triad along the halfback line. Their mission is to blow up the other team’s plays.
With names like greats Hugh McCluggage, Marcus Bontempelli and Bailey Smith featuring in Victoria’s midfield, you can imagine the speed and precision they’ll be bringing to the field. Ed Richards, Jeremy Cameron, and Zak Butters round out the half-forward line. At the other end, Toby Greene, Sam Darcy and Patrick Dangerfield will enter the full-forward brigade. Max Gawn, Noah Anderson and Nick Daicos complete the ruck division for Victoria.
Both squads are left to lick their wounds in the form of very real injury-related losses. Jeremy Cameron, too, is under a cloud of injury which makes his selection for this game questionable at best. Western Australia have included Jake Waterman, Jaeger O’Meara and Tim English as late inclusions. They rose to the occasion when injuries knocked other players out. The 26-year-old defender has a long history of concussion injuries. The Origin decider between Queensland and New South Wales will showcase each state’s best talent. They will do so while fiercely competing for bragging rights! Whatever the reason, fans are sure to pack Genesis Stadium as they await this clash of skill and strategy on the field.
