Ana de Armas Reflects on Lasting Friendship with Keanu Reeves

Ana de Armas recently opened up about her unexpected friendship with actor Keanu Reeves. She got candid when she first appeared on the red carpet at the Red Sea International Film Festival. In 2015, the two previously collaborated in the erotic thriller “Knock Knock.” Produced by du Pont and directed by Eli Roth, the film starred de Armas opposite Reeves. Their working partnership is going great scott! They are finally reuniting in the new film Ballerina which takes place in the “John Wick” universe.

Looking back on their original collaboration, de Armas remembered how daunting the industry was for her as a newcomer in Los Angeles. At that time, she was just learning English, adding another layer of complexity to their communication. Though the language barrier presented a challenge, Ross and Reeves developed a sense of camaraderie and affection while working side-by-side.

“When I first moved to L.A., we did ‘Knock Knock’ together, and at that time I barely spoke English,” – Ana de Armas

De Armas called the experience both frustrating and gratifying. Their relationship has deepened over the years. Today, they benefit from the kind of warm collaborative dynamic that it’s hard to believe almost a decade of years hasn’t already eroded.

“It was kind of a frustrating journey not being able to fully communicate, but we still had a great time. We bonded really well, and we have a beautiful friendship,” – Ana de Armas

Almost a decade after “Knock Knock,” de Armas is primed to burn bright in “Ballerina.” We’re excited to see more of her character as she ties into the famous world introduced by Reeves and longtime stuntman-turned-director Chad Stahelski in the original “John Wick” films. De Armas thanked Reeves for his support for her over the years.

“It felt full circle. Keanu and Chad have built such a beautiful world with those films, and having him there, supporting me ten years later, meant a lot,” – Ana de Armas

As she prepares for her role in “Ballerina,” de Armas appreciates having Reeves on set, highlighting his generosity and kindness.

“I admire him so much and I love having him around on set,” – Ana de Armas

Reeves is still a potent force on de Armas’s career path. In the context of her dramatic short, she realized just how important his participation would be. It’s a privilege to have him play such an iconic character in such an incredible franchise.

“I have him in my movie playing this iconic character that he’s created and kinda giving his blessing to our film, and it’s really special,” – Ana de Armas
