Barack and Michelle Obama Celebrate Sasha’s 24th Birthday with Heartfelt Wishes

Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama recently marked their youngest daughter Sasha‘s 24th birthday with warm tributes on social media. Sasha, born in June 2001, has spent nearly her entire life in the national spotlight. She learned eight formative years of her life in the White House as her father was president from January 2009 until 2017.

Sasha graduated from the University of Southern California in May 2023. She’s very close with her 26-year-old sister, Malia, who’s following the family tradition of working in the film and television industry. Malia is a proud graduate of Harvard University, class of 2021. Most recently, she had her short film, “The Heart,” accepted to the Sundance Film Festival.

On Instagram, Barack Obama expressed his pride and love for Sasha, stating, “Happy birthday, Sasha! Watching you grow into the incredible woman you are has been a true gift. I’ll always be proud of you and will always be here for you.”

Michelle Obama shared a heartfelt message alongside a family photo, writing, “Happy birthday to my sweet girl, Sasha! Can’t believe how quickly time has flown. I’m so proud of the woman you’ve become. Love you always! 💕🥳🎉.” The header photo showed the whole family grinning from ear to ear, conveying their tight bond to the world.

The Obamas have frequently described what it was like to raise Malia and Sasha in the White House. In a July 2024 interview on Melinda French Gates’ podcast “Moments That Make Us,” Michelle Obama discussed the challenges of parenting in such a unique environment. She noted, “You’re not going to live here, and with me, forever. So I’ve got to hand you your life soon and let you manage it.”

Sasha moves through her young adulthood with the absolute backup of her parents. They visibly take pride in her accomplishments and milestones along the way.
