Child Car Seats Recalled Over Potential Choking Hazard

This is a safety alert from Dorel Juvenile Group US, known to consumers as Dorel. They are urgently asking consumers to return more than 179,000 child car seats due to a serious nonfatal injury risk. The recalled product is the Safety 1st Grow and Go Sprint. They were all produced between 2/28/23 and 12/31/23. The recall was announced due to worries that pieces of foam inside the headrests can come off, creating a choking risk for kids.

The manufacturer documented 13 cases in which children put pieces of the removable headrest foam in their mouths. While the foam is non-toxic, Dorel cautions that loose pieces may still pose an injury risk. Whatever you do, stay alert out there to avoid congressionally mandated dangers!

“While the foam is non-toxic, loose pieces of foam can present a choking hazard to a child, increasing the risk of injury,” – Safety 1st

The recall involves the following model numbers: CC321GYU, CC321GYUD, CC321GYY, CC321GYYD, CC321HAO and CC321HAR. Dorel will contact all registered owners of the affected child seats by mail between June 9 and June 13, 2025.

They are providing free replacement headrest pad assembly kits that come with a new headrest pad, meant to go over the foam. The customers can readily register their ownership on the Safety 1st website and get all information on the recall.

Dorel urges consumers NOT to return the recalled child seats to retail stores. Instead, they should contact the Dorel Juvenile Consumer Care team at 1-877-657-9546 to obtain help. The company can be reached by calling 1-877-657-9546 or emailing gng-sprint-recall@djgusa.com.

“At Safety 1st, we take pride in acting quickly and proactively to ensure the safety of our products and to keep families informed. To date, we are not aware of any cases where there have been any claims of injury or medical treatment required.” – Safety 1st

The recall was first made public in an April 22 NHTSA recalls bulletin. Additionally, Safety 1st has widely spread the announcement by sharing it over their social media accounts like this post on Instagram.
