Dollar General Recalls Instant Coffee Over Potential Glass Contamination

Dollar General today announced a voluntary recall. They’re recalling three batches of their 8-ounce Clover Valley Instant Coffee because the coffee could have broken glass in it. The announcement covers all affected items sold at Dollar General stores in all 48 contiguous states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. You can read the details on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website here.

The impacted coffee products are lots of coffee specifically identified by lot codes L-5163 and L-5164. Interestingly, both of these lots have a Best By date of December 13, 2026. Included in the recall is lot L-5165 with Best By date of December 14, 2026. Dollar General has asked customers who bought these items to throw them away in order to stay safe.

To date, Dollar General has provided customers with a full refund for the recalled coffee items. Customers will have simple access to any refund due them by contacting the affected company. Email customer service at customercare@dollargeneral.com, or call 1-888-309-9030 from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. CST, seven days a week.

The recall was originally issued after a customer who returned the mats notified Dollar General employees of the hazard. In reaction to this troubling development, Dollar General has recently announced that it is out of the process of seeking the source of the glass contamination.

“Dollar General is actively investigating the source of the glass contamination and apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this product issue.” – Dollar General

The Tennessee-based regional retailer has taken the unusual step of pre-emptively warning customers about the recall. They’re doing all they can so that everyone knows what it means for them. Through all this change, the company has continued to uphold its commitment to safety and quality in its products.
