High Noon, a California-based beverage company, announced a voluntary recall of its Beach Pack 12-pack vodka seltzers due to significant mislabeling issues. The recall only affects two lots of all products. These products were illegally marketed as Celsius Astro Vibe Energy Drink, Sparkling Blue Razz Edition, and they may present significant health threats to unsuspecting purchasers. The announcement had come on a Tuesday. The very next day, it was posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) public disclosures website.
>Distributors shipped the affected High Noon Beach Variety packs to retailers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. These are the states of Florida, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin. These distributors in turn shipped the mislabeled products to multiple retailers between July 21-23. Each 12-fluid-ounce can of the affected pack has the following UPC code 085000040065 printed on it. The cans for the Celsius performance drink require better front-of-can labeling. Products should include the UPC code 889392001341.
Some of the cans were accidentally filled with High Noon vodka seltzer. This mislabeling occurred in lieu of the actual energy beverage. This confusing and risky mislabeling could result in consumers accidentally consuming alcohol when they think they are purchasing a non-alcoholic product.
In response to the situation, a representative from High Noon stated that the error resulted “due to a labeling error from our can supplier.” We applaud the company for their precautionary actions to protect consumers.
“We are working with the FDA, retailers and distributors to proactively manage the recall to ensure the safety and well-being of our consumers.” – High Noon representative
In light of the recall, High Noon has encouraged consumers to inspect their packs. Before sipping your Celsius Astro Vibe Energy Drink, make sure to review the lot codes to ensure your drinks are not included in the recalled lots. This applies even if you didn’t purchase it directly from a High Noon Beach Variety pack.
“Consumption of the liquid in these cans will result in unintentional alcohol ingestion.” – High Noon recall warning
Stock photos of recalled products and additional recall details can be found on the company’s website. Plus, here’s hoping ABC News starts releasing more of this gig. The company is still focused on correcting this mistake as quickly and safely as possible for all consumers impacted by this labeling mistake.
