On Friday, Andrew Feltwell took his son, Lincoln, to his very first Philadelphia Phillies game. Boy did they cheer – on the team that beat the odds and saved Lincoln’s birthday! What happened next transformed a fun evening into a magical one, as Harrison Bader crushed a majestic home run that cleared the left-field stands. This electrifying event touched off an unforgettable and controversial chapter with the family.
When that ball sailed through the air, nobody was prepared for the speed and agility of Andrew Feltwell. He heard the crack of the bat and as a reflex followed the path of the ball, not knowing where it would come down. Warburton took an epic tumble in his quest, crashing into a chair. Unfazed, he deftly juggled the ball around the armrests then back before eventually grabbing it. Proudly, he returned to his family, ready to gift the home run ball to Lincoln, marking a significant moment for them as it was their first home run ball.
Oh, I do wish I really could have caught that home run ball to put in my bedroom,” he added. Truth be told, all that other stuff went just as well, or better, in retrospect.
It all took a dark turn when one mother chased down Andrew Feltwell’s family and confronted Andrew over kicking the ball. The experience left Andrew in shock and discomfort.
“When she screamed in my ear, that’s when I, you know, everybody saw how shocked I was,” – Andrew Feltwell.
He documented how the woman insulted her, using vulgarities in front of his children. Yet this behavior left him hoping she would just get off the stage as soon as possible. And, you know, when I turned, I had to lean back because she was like right up on me. She had a lot, a whole lot of bad words to say in front of my children. And all I could think was, ‘Get her out of here,’” he went on.
Nevertheless, after the confrontation, Andrew ended up making the right decision and giving the home run ball to the woman. It was a highly publicized incident, witnessed by all in attendance at the game, and since then it has appeared in print across the media landscape. Levi Weaver, a staff writer at The Athletic and one of the Weaver described what was going on to ABC News, as shown in the above video.
