Iconic Darth Vader Lightsaber Set to Spark Bidding War

Darth Vader’s signature red lightsaber stands as one of the most recognizable symbols of the dark side in the epic “Star Wars” saga. This powerful artifact will be auctioned at Bonhams’ Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction in Los Angeles, summer 2025. The auction has already generated a great deal of interest from collectors and fans worldwide. This particular lightsaber features a long history tied directly to the production of George Lucas’ iconic original trilogy.

Like Kylo Ren’s lightsaber, our version features an intimidating red laser. It’s just one of hundreds of other exciting items available for bidding in this hugely popular event. The auction beginning for this exceptional slice of film history is $500,000. But interest in the remarkable artifact is already through the roof, with the highest absentee bid already climbing up to a staggering $1.2 million, according to reports.

This lightsaber, a screen-matched dueling prop, was prominently featured in both “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” and “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.” Mainly, it’s obvious to surface-level flaws from excessive fight choreography and violence. You can see above where the top shroud has been cut away, a clearly visible crack, chipped paint and scratches—all signs of its deep history.

“Wielded by both David Prowse and stunt performer Bob Anderson, this is the primary dueling prop created for Vader’s character in both Empire and Jedi,” stated a representative from Propstore, the company responsible for the auction.

The auction presents a thrilling chance for fans and collectors alike to acquire their own piece of cinematic history. Franchise fans will appreciate the weapon’s legendary status. Equally important, they will welcome its close connection to the performances that created Darth Vader’s distinctive character on the silver screen.
