James Van Der Beek and Family Embrace Halloween Festivities

James Van Der Beek and his family recently spread some holiday cheer with a series of adorable Halloween parties thrown by his wife, Kimberly. The actor, who has been candid about his battle with Stage 3 colorectal cancer, shared glimpses of their spooky festivities via Instagram, highlighting a heartwarming moment with his six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah.

Van Der Beek posted a great video on his Instagram story. More than anything, it provided fans with an inside look into the holiday happenings of his family! He was decked out in full regalia with a Phantom of the Opera mask and full tuxedo. His costume was only topped by Kimberly’s Instagram post, showing the whole family dressed up in coordinating costumes. The Van Der Beek family certainly got into the spirit, proving they know how to celebrate Halloween right.

This year’s celebration was especially poignant for Van Der Beek, who made his cancer diagnosis public in November 2022. He announced his diagnosis of Stage 3 colorectal cancer in early 2023. By sharing this message with all of his fans, he proved that he cares about transparency. Van Der Beek stated he is “getting treatment and dialing in overall health with greater focus than ever before,” a reflection of his determination to maintain a positive outlook amidst challenges.

Even as he figured out how to manage his own health adventure, Van Der Beek didn’t stop working in earnest on his professional one. In September 2025, he appeared by video for a “Dawson’s Creek” fundraiser. This demonstrated his lasting dedication to engaging with his fans and uplifting charitable efforts. Back in December, soon after he announced his diagnosis in an exclusive interview with “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts, he sounded hopeful.

“Physically, I’m great. I’m feeling really good emotionally. You know, it’s a lot,” – James Van Der Beek.

For Halloween celebrations, Van Der Beek and his wife drove their kids around the neighborhood in a golf cart. He jokingly referred to it as a “Halloween hack.” “I can’t believe it took me this long to figure this out,” he said. “Golf carts. I got little kiddos. I am not carrying them right now.”
