Lin-Manuel Miranda Announces Theatrical Release of Hamilton to Celebrate 10th Anniversary

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the incomparable genius behind the revolutionary musical “Hamilton,” just dropped some huge news. The tour will culminate when the show officially arrives in theaters nationwide and in Puerto Rico on September 5th! This limited theatrical release is an extravagant way to celebrate the musical’s 10th anniversary. It comes on the heels of its off-Broadway debut in February of 2015 and it’s broadwaylandish opening at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on August 6, 2015.

Hamilton, which is based on Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton, has gone on to truly revolutionize and reshape the theatrical landscape in its wake. The production went on to receive a remarkable 16 nominations at the 2016 Tony Awards. It won by taking home 11 awards total, including the coveted Best Musical. It’s been a dream of Miranda’s to present the theatrical release of the 2016 version. This revival boasts nearly the entire original cast.

The movie truly exploded on a mainstream level when it made its debut on Disney+ in July of 2020 in the midst of the pandemic. Audiences couldn’t get enough of its innovative combination of mythic storytelling. As Miranda stated on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “We’ve been celebrating all year, but we have one more way to celebrate.”

This theatrical release will hopefully bring those fans to the theater and allow people to experience “Hamilton” in a theatrical, cinematic setting. Tickets for the event were made available beginning August 6th. Now, audiences everywhere can be a part of the jubilation surrounding this groundbreaking moment in theater!

The musical is well-known for its breathtaking combination of live theater and motion picture. It combines to form a truly mind-blowing mixture of hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway. According to a synopsis, “Hamilton” presents the tale of American founding father Alexander Hamilton, depicting “the story of America then, told by America now.”

With its rich history and cultural significance, the upcoming theatrical release promises to be an exciting event for both longtime fans and new audiences alike.
