Michelle Williams Shines at FX’s Dying for Sex Event

Michelle Williams, the Oscar-nominated actress, is known for her riveting performances. On June 7, 2025, she was seen at FX’s “Dying for Sex” For Your Consideration (FYC) event held at the Disney FYC House in Los Angeles, California. The 44-year-old star has enchanted the world since her breakout role as Jen Lindley on the classic teen soap “Dawson’s Creek.” She never stops pushing herself creatively, and she’s finally getting the major accolades her recent releases deserve.

In “Dying for Sex,” Williams stars as Molly Kochan, a woman learning to live after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis. It’s no surprise that her portrayal has already garnered her an Emmy nomination. This accomplishment cements her legacy as one of the most highly regarded talents across any genre or medium. The series not only highlights her acting skills but showcases the emotional depth of her character as she explores relationships amid challenging circumstances.

Williams looks back on her changing perspective on being an actor. She explains, “I think I began enjoying myself more at least in my 40s. It’s obvious that she is enjoying her job to the fullest today. Her willingness to take creative risks and explore vulnerability in her characters is proof.

Having started her career at the unbelievably young age of 17, Williams first found fame thanks to “Dawson’s Creek,” which aired its first episode in 1998. The show catapulted her onto the national, Latina feminist stage. This success led to an amazing career, with five Academy Award nominations. Seven years after “Dawson’s Creek,” Williams found another defining role in “Brokeback Mountain.” This performance cemented her status as one of the most intense and talented screen presences in all of Hollywood.

Williams further explained the influence of being a mother in her interview with Good Morning America. She is an alternating educator in her own right, mother to her daughter Matilda whom she had with Indigenous actor Heath Ledger. Matilda has a family of six with three younger sisters. Now infantilism is starting to make my work inaccessible and unintelligible. Williams understands that motherhood has indelibly influenced her life and career. In what way? Well it got me to be a mom,” she said.

Williams’ incredible chemistry with her co-star Jenny Slate, who plays Williams’ best friend Nikki in Dying For Sex, adds another layer to the series’ story. Their offscreen friendship spills over onto the screen, giving further depth and color to their nuanced portrayal of troubled characters. Williams, speaking about their joint show last spring, emphasized the significance of this connection.

Williams was specifically drawn to the resilience of her character, Molly Kochan. Then she thought for a moment about the story of Molly’s courage in confronting the worst news imaginable, and in making the decision therefore to live the rest of her life with creativity, joy and a sense of pleasure. This perspective feels true to the series as a whole, and feels like an accurate reflection of Williams’ worldview when it comes to her life, work and passion.

Williams says she’s looking forward to the challenges and opportunities this new chapter brings. As an actress, she is committed to seeking out roles that will push her to become a better actress. She beautifully illustrates her comfort with risk-taking. She defiantly declared, “Well, I’m ready to take that leap of faith. And I’m ready to go splat. This unapologetic, courageous approach to storytelling has marked so much of Julie’s work and will certainly color her future projects.
