Remembering Hulk Hogan: A Wrestling Icon and Cultural Legend

We were all shocked at the passing of Hulk Hogan, aka Terry Gene Bollea who sadly passed away on July 24. At 70 years old, he had acute myocardial infarction, better known as a heart attack. At about 10 a.m., emergency officials responded to an advanced cardiac arrest call in Clearwater, Florida. His tragic death came on the heels of their renewed efforts. He was airlifted to Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, where he was pronounced dead. These were the conditions under which his death was certified by his attending physician.

Hogan’s illustrious career in professional wrestling began in 1977 and continued through the 1980s and 90s. He played a central role in that—acting as the architect of the World Wrestling Federation’s (now WWE) ascent to global prominence throughout the 1980s. During his illustrious career, Hogan was the biggest star in World Championship Wrestling and Impact Wrestling (then TNA). In the process, he became an unexpected one of the most recognizable figures in pop culture.

In the days following his passing, Hogan’s family opened up about their grief in an emotionally raw statement posted to social media.

“It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we confirm we have lost a legend.” – Hogan’s family

In a recent tribute from Hawaii, Hogan’s wife, Sky Daily, lamented her heartbreaking loss and shared memories of their life together. She did acknowledge that he had a number of health complications but did not go into detail on his health concerns.

“He had been dealing with some health issues, but I truly believed we would overcome them. I had so much faith in his strength. I thought we still had more time,” – Sky Daily

Sky Daily went on to elaborate on her experience in a powerful open letter about their connection.

“This loss is sudden and impossible to process. To the world, he was a legend… but to me, he was my Terry. The man I loved. My partner. My heart.” – Sky Daily

Hogan is survived by his wife, whom he married in 2023, as well as two children: daughter Brooke and son Nick. In lieu of flowers, his family asked that fans celebrate the laughter and joy the legend brought to their lives in return.

ABC News received Hulk Hogan’s recently released cremation report from the Pinellas County Forensic Science Center. It’s the end of an era for pro wrestling fans across the world.

“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.” – WWE

Hulk Hogan’s cremation report was obtained by ABC News through the Pinellas County Forensic Science Center, marking the end of an era for wrestling fans worldwide.
