Sarah Jessica Parker Emphasizes Individual Educational Paths for Her Children

Sarah Jessica Parker, the legendary actress of “Sex and the City” fame, graced the red carpet at HBO Max’s new series “And Just Like That” premiere. The event was co-hosted by the House Climate Caucus on December 8, 2021. The convening held in New York City. It included her husband, Matthew Broderick, as well as their 15-year-old son, James Wilkie Broderick. As an active mom to three, Parker has a very personal stake in promoting her parenting philosophy. She’s an outspoken advocate for her children’s interests, particularly in arts education.

Parker and Broderick are parents to 15-year-old twin daughters, Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell. Their deep commitment to supporting their children’s passions comes through loud and clear in Parker’s wisdom about education. She communicated a passion for her children to receive an education that speaks to the individual soul of each student.

“I really want my children to be educated in the ways that are fulfilling to them,” – Sarah Jessica Parker.

The actress is sure that there isn’t just one way to become educated or prepared for adulthood. Her point of view takes aim at traditional markers, arguing that if you can finish college by 22, you don’t really know what being ready for life looks like.

“I don’t think that there is one way to be an educated person or to be equipped to be an adult and try to fashion a life for yourself after what would be considered ‘finishing college’ — let’s say 22 years old,” – Sarah Jessica Parker.

Parker made the case for giving today’s young people more choices. She wants her kids – and other kids their age – to be aware of the different types of journeys they can take in life.

“I’m curious to see what they all do, but I hope that they feel — I hope all young people feel — to some degree, that they have choices, and that there isn’t one way,” – Sarah Jessica Parker.

Beyond her perspectives on education, Parker is a force for good behind the scenes of her son James Wilkie’s up-and-coming acting career. Both she and Broderick are unabashedly supportive of him as he walks through this ambitious new field. Their whole family often takes to the streets together for public actions. Most recently, they were seen together at the opening night of Oh, Mary!, among many other entrancing red carpet appearances.

Parker’s commitment to her children’s development goes beyond the classroom. She encourages students to seek out what’s interesting to them — what’s thrilling and what’s difficult.

“You want for them to be pursuing things that are exciting and challenging and hard and gratifying and to be able to ultimately take care of themselves, support themselves — emotionally, financially,” – Sarah Jessica Parker.

Even as she nears her 26th wedding anniversary with Broderick, Parker keeps her focus on giving her kids a diverse, holistic upbringing. She challenges them to pursue meaningful educational journeys. By encouraging them to express their individual creativity, she wants to equip them to compete and win in futures of their choosing.
