Tensions Rise as DDG Seeks Restraining Order Against Halle Bailey Amid Custody Battle

DDG, a 27-year-old rapper, has filed for a restraining order against his partner Halle Bailey, 25, amid escalating tensions surrounding their relationship and shared custody of their son, Halo. Bailey had recently filed for sole legal and physical custody of their child. This recent legal development has them worried about the impact this could have on their family’s dynamic.

As one might expect, the tension between the two ballooned dramatically. It began three weeks before DDG went to court to get a temporary restraining order, when Bailey filed her custody petition. In his declaration, DDG accused Bailey of enduring “instances of physical abuse and coercion.” He further alleged that she “routinely used emotional coercion, including but not limited to threats of self-harm” when he attempted to end their relationship.

DDG’s claims don’t end with emotional distress. He alleged that Bailey “weaponized their pregnancy” by threatening to “abort our baby should I not reconcile or accede to her demands.” While seemingly simple to accept, this assertion goes a long way to emphasize the complex and sometimes adversarial reality of their relationship. Now, the administration’s courts are finally listening.

Tonya Granberry, DDG’s mother, filed her own claims. She announced that she and her fiancé discovered several AirTags that Bailey supposedly dropped. She described this as a “clear and deliberate pattern of unauthorized surveillance and stalking” of her son. The consequences of these allegations would be tremendous in the scope of the custody dispute and the restraining order hearing.

A hearing on both plaintiffs’ requests for domestic violence restraining orders is set for June 24. To protect DDG, the court quickly stepped in and granted a temporary order of protection requiring Bailey to stay away. This order unequivocally bars her from harassing, assaulting, stalking, impersonating, or surveilling him.

Bailey, in turn, fired off at the complaints. She had accused DDG of initiating the “drama,” and having been “badmouthing” her to his followers. Even through their disagreements, she said, she always wanted Halo to have a strong connection with DDG’s family. She emphasized that DDG “should be present instead of simply leaving Halo with his family for days.”

Even as this drama plays out in the judicial arena, both have been spotted at major events. DDG showed up to the Amiri Menswear Spring/Summer 2025 runway show for Paris Fashion Week on June 20, 2024. P.S. At right, Halle Bailey on the red carpet at the 56th NAACP Image Awards at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Feb. 22, 2025.

Both parties face their own set of personal and legal travails. In the meantime, everyone’s eyes are on Halo and the court’s rulings on custodial and protective orders.
