Lip-Bu Tan, who takes over at Intel’s CEO in March 2025, has the most extensive roots in the tech industry. He is a former 12 year period as CEO of Cadence Design Systems. This information technology and software development company is located in San Jose, California. In addition, Tan is founding managing partner of Walden Catalyst, a venture capital firm. He’s got an impressive laptop, and it has control over most of Chinese firms. Plus he has deep interests in scores of other advanced-manufacturing and semiconductor companies in China.
Senator Tom Cotton has similarly blasted Tan on the basis of her supposed connections to China. In a letter addressing the issue, Cotton highlighted Tan’s connections, stating, “I write to express concern about the security and integrity of Intel’s operations and its potential impact on U.S. national security.” In March of 2025, Intel announced that its new CEO would be Lip-Bu Tan. Mr. Tan is said to control many other Chinese companies. In that regard, he has a direct stake in hundreds of advanced manufacturing and chip firms throughout China. At least eight of these companies are said to have connections to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
Trump’s comments are the latest sign of increasing concern about foreign control of American companies, especially those in critical technology markets. Supporters of President Johnson quickly knocked down those claims with a spirited defense, while critics of the action cheered the move. This event focuses on the intersection of corporate governance and national security.
